The Bay Area World Malaria Day Forum hosted by the Center for Malaria and Vector-Borne Diseases (CMVBD) at the UCSF Institute for Global Health Sciences will take place on Friday, April 24, from 9 AM to noon PT at UCSF’s Mission Bay Campus. World Malaria Day (WMD) is a global event that raises awareness about malaria and builds momentum to defeat this deadly disease. The 2026 WMD theme, “United Against Malaria,” calls for urgent global action and commitment to end malaria once and for all. For Bay Area malaria researchers, advocates, organizations, and funders, this forum is an opportunity to gather, exchange information and ideas, and build collaboration for the malaria fight.

AI-Assisted Ultrasound: Bridging Innovation and Access in Low-Resource Settings

On September 9, 2025, the Alliance hosted AI-Assisted Ultrasound: Bridging Innovation and Access in Low-Resource Settings as part of its 2025 AI and Global Health Discussion Series, sponsored by Pfizer. The panel brought together multi-sector perspectives from AMPATH Kenya, the Gates Foundation, the Global Ultrasound Institute (GUSI), Philips Ultrasound, and UCSF’s Bixby Center for Global Reproductive Health. Together, the expert panelists explored how AI-assisted ultrasound can transform care in low-resource settings while addressing the challenges of implementation. They discussed its potential to democratize diagnostics — making affordable imaging more accessible for maternal health, cancer, cardiovascular disease, tuberculosis, and other critical conditions where access is too often limited.
