As we enter the third year of the pandemic, UC Davis Grand Challenges, Healthy Davis Together, and Bay Area Global Health Alliance are reflecting with pride on how our communities have jumped in to help mitigate the devastating consequences of COVID-19 locally, nationally, and globally. Together, we will develop a roadmap for academic integration in pandemic preparedness and response planning that influences the future of public health. On November 15, UCSF Institute for Global Health Sciences and the Bay Area Global Health Alliance co-hosted a virtual roundtable discussion on how to prevent the next pandemic. The online conversation featured award-winning science writer and author Laurie Garrett with: Jonna Mazet – Vice Provost, Grand Challenges, UC Davis; Chancellor’s Leadership Professor of Epidemiology and Disease Ecology, Larry Brilliant – physician and epidemiologist, CEO of Pandefense Advisory, senior counselor at the Skoll Foundation and a CNN Medical Analyst, Thu Do – Director, Medical Affairs, Global Patient Solutions, Gilead Sciences, and Paul Wesson – Assistant Professor, Epidemiology & Biostatistics, School of Medicine, UCSF (serving as moderator). Join University of California, Davis, One Health Institute and for their 10th annual One Health Symposium.

This year’s One Health Symposium theme focuses on climate change and its role in natural disasters globally, with an emphasis on innovation and global variability in transdisciplinary responses. The event will feature a global student case competition, a keynote talk from a world expert on the One Health approach to promote planetary health, and a panel discussion on battling the effects of climate change.

Join UC Davis Veterinary Medicine for the Rx One Health Field Institute, a transformative field-based experiential learning course focused on One Health core competencies for graduate students and early career professionals from all disciplines. Through hands-on experiences, case studies, group discussions and field exercises, Rx One Health will develop participants’ skills for addressing complex challenges using the One Health approach, which recognizes that the health of people, animals, and their environments are interconnected, and that problem solving to address complex challenges is best achieved through transdisciplinary collaboration.
