Bay Area Global Health Alliance 2022 Annual Meeting | May 16, 2022
Global health professionals from academia, NGOs, tech, biotech and other private sector partners gathered for the Alliance’s Annual Meeting on Monday, May 16, at UCSF. Amy Lin, acting director of USAID’s Center for Innovation and Impact, discussed the future of the global health sector in a fireside chat moderated by PHI president and BAGHA board chair Mary Pittman. Their conversation was followed by a series of flash talks on the state of global health financing and investments from representatives from the Hewlett Foundation, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Draper Richards Kaplan Foundation. The meeting concluded with highlights on the state of the Alliance and key partnerships.
Preventing the Next Pandemic: A Roundtable Discussion | November 15, 2022
On November 15, UCSF Institute for Global Health Sciences and the Bay Area Global Health Alliance co-hosted a virtual roundtable discussion on how to prevent the next pandemic. The online conversation featured award-winning science writer and author Laurie Garrett with: Jonna Mazet – Vice Provost, Grand Challenges, UC Davis; Chancellor’s Leadership Professor of Epidemiology and Disease Ecology, Larry Brilliant – physician and epidemiologist, CEO of Pandefense Advisory, senior counselor at the Skoll Foundation and a CNN Medical Analyst, Thu Do – Director, Medical Affairs, Global Patient Solutions, Gilead Sciences, and Paul Wesson – Assistant Professor, Epidemiology & Biostatistics, School of Medicine, UCSF (serving as moderator). Join Alliance member PSI, the Yale Institute for Global Health, and the UK Mission in Geneva, United Nations on May 20, 6:00pm – 8:00pm CEST for an in-person panel discussion at the 76th World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland. The discussion will focus on social and behavior change communication for pandemic preparedness and future infodemic management in the context of digital media platforms.
