CUGH 2022 Satellite Session: Harnessing Social Media and Digital Platforms to Improve Health Outcomes | March 25, 2022

March 25, 2022 @ 8:00 am - 11:00 am

About the event

There is currently a lack of knowledge—including a scarcity of research-supported evidence—to demonstrate how social media can best be used to strengthen vaccine acceptance.

The Bay Area Global Health Alliance and the Sabin Vaccine Institute are collaborating, as partners of the Alliance for Advancing Health Online (AAHO), to elevate what knowledge exists today and how social media can be most effectively harnessed to combat misinformation and disinformation. As part of this work, the Vaccine Confidence Fund, another initiative of the AAHO, has awarded 33 grants to researchers, mainly academics. The findings and insights of the international grantees’ research will be highlighted in this session to further the dialogue and understanding of how social media can be used to improve health outcomes, especially among vulnerable populations.

The session will include lightning talks from the researchers, as well as fireside chats with leading stakeholders in this space, such as the WHO Tech Task Force, The Rockefeller Foundation’s Mercury Project, Sabin Vaccine Institute, and other AAHO partners like the World Bank and the CDC Foundation. The session will also include an interactive design sprint on how to advance the findings for practical implementation in vaccine acceptance programs and research.
