14th International Rotavirus Symposium

The 14th International Rotavirus Symposium will take place March 14-16, 2023 in Bali, Indonesia at the Westin Nusa Dua Hotel. It will bring together interested stakeholders such as Alliance members PATH and Sabin Vaccine Institute to provide an update on new data and relevant research that will inform public health agendas related to prevention of rotavirus gastroenteritis. 

The Behavior Effect: A JSI Livecast Series

Join Alliance member JSI for their livecast series that will feature ongoing discussions on lessons and innovations in the most pressing areas of public health. The Behavior Effect—a three-part series focused on operationalizing person-centered care—will kick off this series. In this first livecast, panelists will be discussing “What it Takes to Govern and Finance Person-Centered Care”.

Closing the Financing Gap for Climate Change and Health: Mobilizing Synergistic Funding

Join Alliance member UCSF Institute for Global Health Sciences at a webinar about closing the financing gap for climate change and health. To address the growing health impacts of climate change, the global community must make immediate changes in the climate and health sectors. In this webinar, climate change and health financing experts and advocates will discuss strategies and opportunities for advancing synergistic investment in climate and health programs and policies.

CUGH 2023

Alliance member CUGH’s annual conference is a must attend event on the global health calendar. Over 2,000 scientists, students and implementers from academia, NGOs, government and the private sector will present, learn and collaborate to address some of the pressing challenges our world faces. A wide range of medical and non-medical disciplines are represented throughout the virtual and in-person pre-conference satellite sessions (free to attend, register online) and the April 14-16th conference.

CUGH Satellite Session: Transforming Universities for Equity and Impact in Global Health

Join Dr. Michele Barry from Alliance member Stanford University at a CUGH Satellite Session on transforming universities for equity and impact in global health. Collaborative, interdisciplinary research is an important approach for better understanding issues leading to poorer health outcomes in low resource countries and communities and for identifying strategies to address these issues. In this session, participants will discuss university-level changes needed to improve collaborative research, and strategies that can be adopted to advocate for these changes.

Informal Gathering of Partners to Discuss Rural Healthcare Delivery | April 6, 2023

The Alliance hosted an informal gathering of members including: Fistula Foundation, Kapnek Trust Zimbabwe, Friends of Chidamoyo, UC Berkeley, UCSF Bixby Center for Reproductive Health, Stanford, MedShare, Viamo, and CCBRT Tanzania to share experiences in rural healthcare delivery. Digital innovations such as the Butterfly Ultrasound device, which attaches to a cell phone and provides access to specialists for image analysis, were discussed as critical for low-resources settings.

CPPR Conversation Series with Dr. Monica Gandhi

Join Alliance member UCSF for a conversation with infectious disease doctor Monica Gandhi. She’ll discuss her new book, Endemic: A Post-Pandemic Playbook, which addresses the importance of biomedical advances and harm reduction strategies in ensuring equitable responses to current and future pandemics. Dr. Monica Gandhi is an expert in infectious diseases, specializing particularly in the care of patients with HIV and AIDS.

Maternal Health: Optimizing Safe Delivery Roundtable Discussion | April 19, 2023

More than 4.5 million women and babies die annually during or immediately after childbirth, according to a recent United Nations report. Most of these deaths are preventable with access to quality care. The Bay Area Global Health Alliance, together with Merck for Mothers, convened a small group of members in April 2023 to discuss the challenges and opportunities of ensuring safe delivery in both urban and rural impoverished communities. The cross-sectoral Alliance members that were engaged in discussing possible options to reduce those abysmal statistics included CCBRT in Tanzania and Chidamoyo Hospital in Zimbabwe, and representatives from Antara International, Maya Health Alliance, Simprints, UCSF Bixby Center for Global Reproductive Health, and the World Telehealth Initiative.
