The Role of Exposure Notifications for Future Pandemic Response

June 27, 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

About the event

Join Alliance member UCSF’s Pandemic Initiative for Equity and Action for a webinar on the role of exposure notifications for future pandemic response.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, more than 40 countries and 28 US states deployed the Google-Apple Exposure Notification (EN) smart-phone system. As a result, millions of EN users around the world used the system to report their COVID-19 diagnosis anonymously and sent exposure alerts to others. Evidence from the US and internationally suggests that EN is a low-cost, user-friendly, and scalable system with promising effectiveness for COVID-19.

Mohsen Malekinejad MD, DrPH and Nicole Skehan, Health Education and Communications Specialist will discuss EN’s potential utility for responding to outbreaks of similar infectious diseases. They will also share lessons learned from the implementation and evaluation of the system in California (Dec 2010- May 2023), ways CA Notify supplemented California’s conventional contact tracing program, and future directions and evaluation opportunities for this novel public health tool.
