Connecting for innovation and equity in global health
As the crisis continues in India and South Asia, the Bay Area Global Health Alliance is working to identify the best ways institutions and individuals can support existing and effective responses, in line with India’s foreign contributions laws, and to mobilize the Bay Area into action.
On Wednesday, May 5, at 8am PST, the Bay Area Global Health Alliance convened members and regional stakeholders together for an emergency briefing. The purpose was to: get real time information from on the ground in India; and identify the most effective emergency responses currently being undertaken, that the Bay Area, through our Alliance members and the community more broadly, can support.
Bay Area Global Health Alliance Board member Purnima Mane hosted the session. Speakers were:
Anurag Mairal, Stanford and Sewa International
Director Global Outreach Programs, Stanford Byers Center for Biodesign
Lead Faculty, Technology Innovation and Impact, Center for Innovation in Global Health
Adjunct Professor, Stanford School of Medicine
President, Sewa International’s Bay Area Chapter
Mohammed Ameel, PATH India
Head, Primary Healthcare, Technology & Innovations at PATH India
Former Senior Consultant, Healthcare Technology Division, WHO Collaborating Center, National Health Systems Resource Center

The Alliance will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide regular updates to members. Many members — including PATH, PHI, Google, Facebook, Americares, UCSF and UNICEF — are already working with their partners and affiliates to support emergency responses to India’s COVID crisis. The Alliance is also polling its members to produce a comprehensive overview of the actions taken by our members.
