Private Sector Finance for Global Health: Investing for Impact and Equity | A Conversation and Member Reception

Dec 17, 2024

To kick off the new year and gather our multi-sector global health community together, the Alliance is hosting a conversation on catalyzing increased private sector investment toward achieving health equity for underserved communities across emerging and frontier markets. This discussion builds on our Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center convening held December 9-13 with Baraka Impact Finance, and will also feature speakers from the J.P. Morgan Healthcare Conference 2025 (JPM2025) panel, Realizing Returns: Investment Opportunities in Emerging Markets. Alliance members are invited to attend in-person near Union Square in San Francisco, with a networking reception to follow. Register here.

Over half of the global population lacks essential health services, with an annual funding gap of $371 billion required to meet Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG3) in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Traditional funding sources like Official Development Assistance (ODA), philanthropy, and government spending are stagnating (or decreasing due to shrinking fiscal space). This economic outlook disproportionately impacts the most vulnerable populations, with catastrophic out-of-pocket health expenditure driving nearly 100 million people annually into extreme poverty every year. The urgency to bridge this gap cannot be overstated. Private capital investment presents a potential solution to address these critical funding gaps and improve access to innovative health solutions. However, intentionality is key—investments must be equity-driven, targeting underserved populations and prioritizing improved health outcomes for those most in need. Deploying capital with an explicit focus on equity is essential to create sustainable, inclusive health systems that leave no one behind.

Join us as we work to increase capital investments, enhance health investment literacy, and strengthen stakeholder collaboration to transform healthcare in underserved populations.
