On January 22, the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley), Stanford University (Stanford), and the Bay Area Global Health Alliance are co-hosting the Bay Area launch of the Lancet Commission on Investing in Health report, Global Health 2050: The Path to Halving Premature Death by Mid-Century.
The report, published in October 2024, outlines how countries can reduce their rates of premature death by 50% by the year 2050. It emphasizes the importance of increasing equitable access to healthcare, enhancing health systems, addressing non-communicable diseases (NCDs), and implementing targeted economic and financing strategies.
The Bay Area launch event will be held in person at Genentech Hall Byers Auditorium, UCSF Mission Bay campus and virtually on Zoom on January 22 from 4-5:45 PM PT, with a networking reception to follow until 7 PM PT. Learn more and register to join in person (by January 15) or via Zoom here.
This event will bring together Bay Area students, researchers, and other key stakeholders to explore the significant findings of the Lancet report, discuss next steps, and outline the priorities for follow-up studies.
It will feature multi-sectoral perspectives from academia, government, the private sector, and other health leaders, including co-authors of the report, Dr. Gavin Yamey (Duke), Dr. Dean Jamison (UCSF), Dr. Stefano Bertozzi (UC Berkeley), Dr. Shuchi Anand (Stanford), and Justina Seyi-Olajide (McGill).
This will be an engaging discussion on where we’ve been, where we are now, and the path forward to achieve the ambitious goals for global health outlined in the report.
