The Bay Area Global Health Alliance’s 2025 Annual Meeting on June 5 brought together a diverse community of leaders, innovators, funders, and implementers at a pivotal time for global health. Held under Chatham House Rules to encourage open, candid dialogue, the convening reflected the urgency and complexity of a sector facing major funding cuts. Despite the challenges, there was a strong call to action across the community — to do bold things and reimagine the future. The meeting featured panels focused on AI, innovative financing, and U.S. government policy.

JANUARY 22, 2025

On Wednesday, January 15, the Bay Area Global Health Alliance hosted a panel discussion, “Realizing Returns: Investment Opportunities in Emerging Markets,” at the 2025 J.P. Morgan Healthcare Conference (JPM) in San Francisco, followed by a reception to continue the conversation, “Private Sector Finance for Global Health: Investing for Impact and Equity,” held at Accenture San Francisco Innovation Hub. Together, these discussions explored investment opportunities in global health and partnerships using innovative financing models to drive both business and social returns in emerging markets.

DECEMBER 17, 2024

To kick off the new year and gather our multi-sector global health community together, the Bay Area Global Health Alliance invites its members to join us for a conversation on catalyzing increased private sector investment toward achieving health equity for underserved communities across emerging and frontier markets, followed by an in-person networking reception on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 from 3–6 PM PT near Union Square in San Francisco.

With Baraka Impact Finance taking the lead, the Alliance is honored to co-host a Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center Convening in December, focused on “Igniting Scale: Private Sector Finance for Global Health in Emerging and Frontier Markets,” bringing together a diverse brain trust of global health financing experts. In a related effort, the Alliance will host a panel on emerging markets at the prestigious J.P. Morgan Healthcare Conference in San Francisco on January 15.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one of the most pressing public health challenges of the 21st century, particularly in LMICs, where economic and social factors exacerbate the misuse of antibiotics. At the 2024 Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting, PATH, in partnership with the Alliance, Pfizer, and the governments of Tanzania and Senegal announced a Commitment to Action to tackle AMR through an innovative outcomes-based financing mechanism. This approach aims to strengthen antimicrobial stewardship by addressing behavioral and market incentives that drive the overuse of antibiotics, fostering sustainable solutions to curb AMR in resource-limited settings.

On Wednesday, January 10, the Bay Area Global Health Alliance hosted a panel discussion, Reimagining Healthcare in Emerging Markets: The Future of Healthcare Innovation and Investment at the renowned J.P. Morgan Healthcare Conference in San Francisco.

On July 20 at UCSF, the Bay Area Global Health Alliance hosted Baraka Impact Finance for a conversation on innovative financing for global health in emerging markets. The discussion highlighted the potential of private capital to drive impactful health solutions, the growing interest in impact-focused investments, and the need for greater collaboration between investors, entrepreneurs, and nonprofits to address the challenges faced in global health financing.
