Strengthening Primary Care Access: AI and Pharmacies

October 14, 2025 @ 10:30 am - 11:30 am

Community pharmacies represent one of the most underutilized assets in global primary healthcare delivery. In low-resource settings, they often serve as the first—and sometimes only—accessible points of care for millions of people. The convergence of artificial or “augmented” intelligence (AI) and global health presents an unprecedented opportunity to transform this landscape.

As traditional healthcare funding models face increasing constraints, AI-powered tools offer a pathway to dramatically enhance the capabilities of existing pharmacy networks without requiring massive new infrastructure investments. From diagnostic support and clinical decision-making to patient triage and care coordination, AI can enable pharmacists to deliver comprehensive primary care services that extend far beyond medication dispensing.

As part of the 2025 AI and Global Health Discussion series, sponsored by Pfizer, the Bay Area Global Health Alliance is hosting a panel session at AHTS, Strengthening Primary Care Access: AI and Pharmacies, on October 14 from 10:30–11:30am CAT at the Kigali Convention Centre (Room: MH2).

Alliance member, Goodlife, along with Chan Zuckerberg Biohub, the Global Fund, and Society for Family Health Rwanda, are joining us for this important discussion. Join us as we examine how AI-assisted technologies can activate pharmacies as integrated primary care hubs, particularly in low-resource settings.

We are also hosting an invitation-only cocktail reception on October 14 from 16:30-18:30 CAT. Please fill out this form to express your interest in receiving an invitation.

We are grateful to Pfizer as lead sponsor of our 2024 and 2025 AI and Global Health series.
