Social Determinants of Health as the Building Block to Health Equity

Join Stanford Mussallem Center for Biodesign for the August 12 session in the 2025-26 Innovation & Health Equity Discussion Series. This session will feature Tracy Johnson, Senior Officer & Design Anthropologist; Project Pathways Lead, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, who will discuss how we can narrow the gap between social determinants of health and health outcomes.
In this session, internationally recognized design anthropologist Tracy Johnson explores the Pathways Project—a woman-centered, design-based approach that uses segmentation to understand better how health outcomes are distributed in a population. You’ll learn how governments and global health leaders are using this tool to inform strategies, design health solutions to consider social determinants of health, prioritize services, and integrate health programs and social and community systems to enhance impact.
