Digital ID Systems and Public Health in the Age of AI

August 12 @ 6:00 am

Convened by Vital Strategies under the PILLARs initiative, this 60-minute exchange on August 12 at 9:00AM ET / 6:00AM PT will bring together a small group of country representatives, regional institutions, and technical partners to explore one shared question: How are countries designing and implementing trusted and inclusive digital IDs that are rooted in CRVS systems and advance public health goals?

PILLARs is a South-South peer-learning network for countries working to strengthen the public health foundations needed for responsible AI implementation. It creates space for countries navigating similar implementation questions to exchange practical experience, compare approaches, and learn from one another.

The session will focus on practical country experience and peer discussion, with anticipated country reflections from Ethiopia and Rwanda, and additional countries to be announced soon.

Confirmed speakers:

  • Josephine Mukesha, Director General at the National Identification Agency (NIDA) in Rwanda
  • Mr. Yoseph Niguse Desta, Director General, Addis Ababa Civil Registration and Residence Service Agency
