Alliance Programming & Initiatives

AI and Global Health

The intersection of AI and global health is unlocking new possibilities to improve health outcomes, expand access, and address persistent challenges across health systems worldwide. Building on momentum from our 2023 Annual Meeting panel and our participation in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) Roundtable on AI and Global Health, our community has voiced a strong interest in continuing to shape this fast-evolving frontier. At the Alliance, we are convening cross-sector leaders to explore how AI can be responsibly and effectively applied to global health.

Innovative Financing and Investments

As traditional global health funding faces mounting challenges, private capital, impact investing, and innovative financing are increasingly critical. In alignment with our mission, the Alliance is fostering multi-sector dialogues to catalyze greater private-sector investment in healthcare across emerging markets. Our programming—including convenings at the J.P. Morgan Healthcare Conference, the Rockefeller Foundation’s Bellagio Center, and outcomes-based financing efforts targeting antimicrobial resistance—is helping shape the future of sustainable global health financing.

Strengthening Primary Care Access: AI and Pharmacies

On October 14, the Alliance organized a panel at the Africa HealthTech Summit in Kigali, Strengthening Primary Care Access: AI and Pharmacies, as part of its 2025 AI and Global Health Discussion Series, sponsored by Pfizer. The session brought together experts from Chan Zuckerberg (CZ) Biohub, Goodlife, The Global Fund, and the Society for Family Health (SFH) Rwanda to explore how AI can enable pharmacists to deliver comprehensive primary care services, particularly in low-resource settings, that extend far beyond medication dispensing.

AI-Assisted Ultrasound: Bridging Innovation and Access in Low-Resource Settings

On September 9, the Alliance hosted AI-Assisted Ultrasound: Bridging Innovation and Access in Low-Resource Settings as part of its 2025 AI and Global Health Discussion Series, sponsored by Pfizer. The panel brought together multi-sector perspectives from AMPATH Kenya, the Gates Foundation, the Global Ultrasound Institute (GUSI), Philips Ultrasound, and UCSF’s Bixby Center for Global Reproductive Health. Together, the expert panelists discussed the potential of AI-assisted ultrasound to democratize diagnostics in low-resource settings — making affordable imaging more accessible for maternal health, cancer, cardiovascular disease, tuberculosis, and other critical conditions where access is too often limited.

Dual Market Returns: Healthcare Investment in Emerging Markets | JPM 2025

On January 15, the Bay Area Global Health Alliance hosted a panel discussion, Realizing Returns: Investment Opportunities in Emerging Markets, at the 2025 J.P. Morgan Healthcare Conference (JPM) in San Francisco, followed by a reception to continue the conversation, Private Sector Finance for Global Health: Investing for Impact and Equity, held at Accenture San Francisco Innovation Hub. Alliance 2025 Annual Meeting | Meeting the Moment, Moving Forward Together

The Bay Area Global Health Alliance’s 2025 Annual Meeting on June 5 brought together a diverse community of leaders, innovators, funders, and implementers at a pivotal time for global health. Held under Chatham House Rules to encourage open, candid dialogue, the convening reflected the urgency and complexity of a sector facing major funding cuts. Despite the challenges, there was a strong call to action across the community — to do bold things and reimagine the future, acknowledging the millions of lives depending on it.

Report: Narrowing the Know-Do Gap, Exploring the Intersection of Implementation Science and Health Equity

Considerable advancements and significant investments in global health have marked recent years; yet numerous evidence-based interventions continue to fall short of their full potential. By leveraging the multidisciplinary and multi-sector strength of its members, the Bay Area Global Health Alliance explored these challenges through the lens of implementation science in our new insights report. The project engaged nearly 150 global health leaders across various disciplines and sectors to inform and enhance the design, implementation, and scalability of health solutions.

USG Policy Shifts and Impact on Global Health
